Bomb disposal on october 12, 2024
in the city of Göttingen, suspected bomb sites have been found on the grounds of the Schützenplatz. These are to be rendered harmless on Saturday, October 12, 2024. This requires an evacuation in a 1,000-meter radius around the sites.
Unfortunately, the “campus apartments Göttingen” also fall within this radius. Therefore, no accommodation can be offered from Saturday, Saturday, October 12, 2024 until probably October 13. Guests are asked to look for other accommodations in advance or to use the emergency accommodations offered by the city of Göttingen. Further information can be found here: www.goettingen.de
In order to ensure the safety of the population, an evacuation within a 1,000-meter radius is required for the action. It is expected that everyone will have to leave the restricted area by 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, Saturday, October 12, 2024. Around 10,000 residents and, for example, employees and hotel guests are affected. Only when the area has been completely cleared can the experts begin work on the construction sites. A possible return in the evening/night hours is expected.
Telephone hotline available from September 30
From Monday, September 30, there will be a telephone hotline where residents can report special support needs. This service from the city can be reached on 0551/ 400-5050 at fixed times: from Monday, September 30 to Wednesday, October 2 and from Monday to Wednesday, October 7 to 9 from 9 am to 4 pm. Thursday, October 10 and Friday, October 11, the telephone number will be manned from 9 am to 8 pm. On the day of the bomb disposal, Saturday, October 12, the hotline will be available from 4:30 a.m. until one hour after the evacuation. Citizens can also send questions by email to bombenverdacht@goettingen.de. Residents in the evacuation area and the extended protection zone will also be informed by flyer next week.
Accommodation in the Felix-Klein-Gymnasium
As with last year’s evacuation, the city is offering accommodation in the Felix-Klein-Gymnasium (FKG) during the evacuation. Residents in the evacuation area who have nowhere else to stay on the day of the evacuation are asked to register for emergency accommodation on the city’s telephone hotline by October 9 at the latest. They should state how many people are traveling with them and whether they are bringing pets. A transport box, food and poop bags must be brought for the animals. Trained staff will then look after the animals at the FKG. People in need of care or people with other disabilities are also asked to contact the city by October 9.
Shuttle service planned during bomb disposal
A free shuttle service with buses operated by Göttinger Verkehrsbetriebe (GöVB) will be available for residents of the evacuation area from 5 a.m. and after the all-clear has been given. The red and blue lines marked “Evacuation route” run every ten minutes. The “Red” line stops at the following stations: Otto-Frey-Brücke (out of town), St.-Godehard-Kirche replacement stop, Grätzelstraße, Rosmarinweg (out of town), Königsstieg replacement stop, Posthof (into town), FKG (evacuation center). The blue line stops at these stops: St.-Godehard-Kirche replacement stop (out of town), Asternweg (out of town), Tulpenweg (out of town), Pfalz-Grona-Breite (into town), Im Rinschenrott (into town), Maschmühlenweg (into town), Hildebrandtstraße (into town), Platz der Göttinger Sieben (into town), Bahnhof A, FKG (evacuation center).
Due to the proximity to the station, almost all GöVB services as well as Deutsche Bahn trains and some Verkehrsbund Süd-Niedersachsen lines are also affected by the bomb disposal. Trains will continue to stop at the station until 5.59 a.m. and will not return to Göttingen until an hour after the all-clear has been given. As buses are not allowed to travel through the restricted area during the evacuation, many lines will be canceled and there will be rail replacement services and alternative connections.

Göttingen – City with Flair
Göttingen is the city that creates knowledge: the university city, the science city, the city of Gauss, Lichtenberg or the Brothers Grimm. But Göttingen is also the shopping city, the festival city. The city of culture, the green city in charming surroundings. Göttingen is the city with many facets that are worth discovering: different every time, exciting every time. And the city with stories that can only be told here, like that of the bronze fountain figure, the Gänseliesel.
